Emerging Poncho Festival 2012

I`m not gonna lie. I`m feeling a bit rough. Only in my bones though, I`ve been quite moderate with my Boreale consumption…I`ve got responsibilities after all.
Queing, standing around chatting and walking from gig to gig is taking it`s toll. I should have been taking my Technique Nadeau more seriously…
I took in Avec pas d`Casque`s beautiful show yesterday at Evolu-son, an intimate and great sounding venue attached to a long lived music store near the lake.
I was struck by how many young families were there. There`s something unconventionally wholesome about beer mugs crowding the table with sippy cups and baby food. Seeing so many blissed out babies in a loud club (there was no crying, seriously…only some well times squeals of joy) reinforced my belief that there`s something profoundly special and different about how kids grow up here. This was not typical, in my BC upbringing. Not by a long shot.
I was riveted by Louis-Jean Cormier`s show later on. It was another one of those magical FME moments when, devoid of any prior knowledge of a band and not knowing what to expect, ones ears are happily massaged by an incredibly tight band with a refreshing sound…

A word on last night`s tunes…

Before I head out for another night of sonic delight; just a few words about the shows I was able to catch last night…
Without a doubt the highlight yesterday was Lisa Leblanc`s show at the Desjardins Stage at 7e Rue. An Acadian alt-country rocker with the power of Neko Case only with more decibels. The irony was lost on no-one when, after receiving a golden record award form the fine people at Bonsound, broke into crowd favourite Ma Vie et La Marde amidst swirling stage smoke and beaucoup audience participation.
Follow up act Radio Radio was, as always a sight and sound to behold. Limitless good energy.
I also popped over to Agora des Arts to see the last bit of Half Moon Run and Timbre Timbe. They were beautiful acts in a beautiful venue. A great counter to the stand up raucusness of the venue next door…⨪

Cheers,

Zeus
