{"id":1846,"date":"2015-01-22T00:01:57","date_gmt":"2015-01-22T05:01:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/?p=1846"},"modified":"2017-08-14T15:17:41","modified_gmt":"2017-08-14T15:17:41","slug":"something-new","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/something-new\/","title":{"rendered":"Something New"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Unless we&rsquo;re talking about Ebola or the Spanish flu,\u00a0there&rsquo;s something really\u00a0awesome about being amongst the first to try something new.\u00a0Take this little guy for instance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/giphy-3.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1861\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/giphy-3.gif\" alt=\"giphy (3)\" width=\"470\" height=\"270\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It&rsquo;s that feeling of \u00ab\u00a0I know something you don&rsquo;t know\u00a0\u00bb that\u00a0pulls\u00a0us\u00a0towards new and exciting things. Embrace it and let it take you\u00a0where it wants to.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/giphy-4.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1862\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/giphy-4.gif\" alt=\"giphy (4)\" width=\"470\" height=\"248\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&rsquo;ve been coming to the FME (Emerging Music Festival) religiously for the past 6 years. But, I do not have the bragging rights that come with having been there\u00a0since year one. I do not have that stinky worn out t-shirt, or\u00a0that used, beaten and bruised bracelet lingering in a bottomless drawer. But everything is about to change. I will soon avenge\u00a0my fear-of-missing-out, hop in a canoe, launch myself down a frozen hill, and finally participate in the genesis of something new.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/tumblr_n1w8k55qZm1qdlh1io1_400.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1859\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/tumblr_n1w8k55qZm1qdlh1io1_400.gif\" alt=\"tumblr_n1w8k55qZm1qdlh1io1_400\" width=\"470\" height=\"229\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not every year that you witness the creation of something new. This winter, in the dead dark of January\u2019s breath, <em>Quartiers d\u2019hiver, <\/em>a brand spanking new winter version of our beloved FME,\u00a0will keep our fire stoked. Canadian winters are long and tough, especially in northern communities like Rouyn-Noranda (or my hometown of Sudbury, where I type these words from my quinzee overlooking a slag burnt skyline). Festivals like this make it all worth it.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/giphy-1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1853\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/giphy-1.gif\" alt=\"giphy (1)\" width=\"470\" height=\"280\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Festivals that truly embrace Canadian winters are few and far between but are essential to our sanity. They recharge our inner Eliminator Power Packs\u00a0and help us make it through the next few months of frozen hell. No one in their\u00a0right mind can make it through this crap\u00a0alone. We need to get together, more than ever, and collectively freeze our asses off.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/giphy1.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1852\" src=\"http:\/\/www.fmeat.org\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/01\/giphy1.gif\" alt=\"Dance\" width=\"470\" height=\"313\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our cheeks will get all stiff. The black holes of our big winter boots will swallow our socks.\u00a0And, someone will inevitably get their tongue stuck to a metal pole along the way.\u00a0(If this does happen to you, do not panic. There is a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wikihow.com\/Remove-a-Stuck-Tongue-from-a-Frozen-Surface\" target=\"_blank\">better way to remove\u00a0it<\/a>.
